On December 9th, the container ship "Orita" experienced engine failure while passing through the Dardanelles Strait on its from Aliağa to Kocaeli. So far, no reports of injuries or pollution have been received.
The ship encountered a mechanical malfunction off the coast Gelibolu, prompting the Canakkale Vessel Traffic Services Center to coordinate the response immediately. Maritime authorities dispatched a pilot and the tugboats "Kurt 18" and "Kurtarma 20" to ensure the safety of the vessel.
Under the escort of "Kurtarma 18," "Orita" was towed by "Kurtarma 20" and subsequently taken to Şevketiye Anchorage, where it safely anchored without further.
