On the 22nd, the Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) intercepted three 40-foot containers falsely declared through Port of Manila, which were found to contain fresh carrots from China, with a total discovery of illegal agricultural products valued at over 132 million pesos.
The containers, which arrived on October 2, were erroneously declared as bathroom fixtures, napkin paper, and storage boxes, according to the BOC in a press release.
An alert order was issued on October 8 by the Port of Manila's Alert Monitoring Unit following the receipt of a report, and a full physical examination was launched on October 7. During this period, it was discovered that 53,283.88 kilograms of fresh carrots were misdeclared as bathroom fixtures, napkins, storage boxes, with the seized carrots estimated to have a fair market value of 132,820,727.77 pesos.
The was inspected by the Assistant Commissioner and other key BOC officials on October 22, 2025. "We are already prepared to take the necessary legal action against responsible. Falsification is a deliberate act of deceiving the government and harming farmers. The BOC will pursue this case with due process and determination," said Assistant Commissioneronilla, emphasizing that the BOC will ensure accountability through the appropriate legal channels.
In accordance with the relevant legal system, the BOC will issue a Warrant ofizure and Detention (WSD) against the shipment in question.
