On December 21st, the oil tanker "Zhong Fa", flying the flag of Honduras, lost control while passing through the Strait. The vessel was en route to Fuzhou Port in China at the time of the accident.


According to the Fujian Maritime Safety Administration, the main engine the oil tanker malfunctioned, and navigation warnings were issued to nearby vessels. It is advised that ships in the area closely monitor the situation and maintain a safe distance from theaway tanker.
