Recently, PIL celebrated the naming of its latest 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship, Kota Ocean, at a ceremony held at the PSA terminal in Singapore.

This event aligns with Singapore's 60th anniversary of its founding and highlights PIL's focus on sustainability, efficiency and innovation in the maritime shipping sector.

Kota Ocean is the sixth LNG dual-fuel vessel in the PIL fleet and the second of the four 8,200 TEU "O" class vessels under construction. These new vessels are at the core of PIL's strategy to update its fleet and enhance operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Kota Ocean will be deployed in PIL's South West Africa Service (SWS), connecting Far East ports, including China and Singapore, with destinations including Ghana, Togo, Nigeria and Cote d 'Ivoire. This trade route is expected to strengthen the connection between Asia and Africa and support economic growth.

This vessel, along with its sister vessel Kota Oasis, was delivered in April 2025, along with four 14,000TEU liquefied natural gas carriers that have already been put into operation. PIL still has orders for 12 vessels, including 2 vessels of 8,200 TEU, 5 vessels of 13,000 TEU and 5 vessels of 9,000 TEU, which will be delivered in the coming years.

PIL's new vessel is designed to use more environmentally friendly biomethane fuel and is equipped with advanced exhaust gas recovery technology to reduce methane emissions. In addition, it also includes additional features, such as an optimized hull shape and digital system, designed to enhance fuel efficiency, automation and operational safety.
