With more than 35 years in the shipping industry, Aleson Shipping Lines, Inc. (ASLI) still stands apart from any domestic shipping companies. Its twenty - three (23) passenger and cargo vessels sail to more than 11 ports of call all over the country. With its personal approach to customer service and versatile vessels combine with reliable shipping schedules and cargo handling capabilities to safely transport goods, ASLI has emerged as the premier passenger and cargo carrier in this specialized “niche” market. Established in the year 1976, ASLI originally started under the sole proprietorship of Mr. Feliciano N. Tan, Sr. This Zamboanga-based shipping company launched its mother ship, MV Estrella Del Mar, a steel-hulled passenger & cargo vessel, in the same year and initially intended to transport rice to the neighboring islands but eventually became a line transporting passengers and cargoes in the Zamboanga- Basilan & vice- versa route. With the ever-growing demand of its services, ASLI decided to expand to cater its customer’s needs. After the maiden voyage of its first vessel, these are some highlight moments in its history: In 1987, ASLI changed from sole proprietorship into corporation but still under the headship of Mr. Feliciano N. Tan, Sr. In 1994, a route was established between Zamboanga Port, Philippines and Sandakan, Sabah Malaysia in which ASLI answered the call of former Pres. Fidel V. Ramos’ BIMP-EAGA project by deploying its 2,300.82 GRT passenger/cargo vessel M/V Lady Mary Joy. ASLI up to present still serves this route and even extends help to the Philippine government by pioneering the carrying of Filipino deportees from Sandakan, Sabah Malaysia to Zamboanga City, Philippines with the aid of the Department of Social Work & Development. By the year 1999, ASLI is the lone Zamboanga-based shipping company that started to containerize its cargo shipments serving the ports of Zamboanga, Dipolog, Bacolod, Cebu and Manila. In response to Pres. Gloria M. Arroyo’s project, “The Expanded Strong Republic Nautical Highway in Western Mindanao” under the Executive No. 179-170-A in the year 2003, ASLI utilized its three (3) Roll-on & Roll-off vessels to serve the ports of Tawi-Tawi, Bongao, Isabela & Lamitan, Basilan. Launched in 2004, is ASLI’s first fast sea craft, M/V Sea Jet. ASLI, a first-class organization, is a compliant of International Safety Management Code and International Code for the Security of Ships & Port Facilities. The implementation of Safety Management System in its land-based offices and onboard all managed vessels is strictly monitored through regular reviews and audits. This ensures the seaworthiness of each vessels and the maintenance of its standard services. Moreover, ASLI has five (5) vessels that are accredited by the Department of Tourism adding to its dependability.
