简介

TBB Global Logistics Company History In 1946, Transportation Bureau of Baltimore was founded by A. Allan Polakoff. Mr. Polakoff, an attorney by trade, was also an experienced traffic manager. He identified the need of the shipping and receiving public to gain assistance unraveling the complex world of freight traffic. He discovered that many shippers and receivers of freight had no in-house transportation expertise and, as a result, continually paid more than necessary to transport their goods. A. Allan Polakoff was an industry pioneer. He aided the development of the freight traffic consulting industry. In 1947, TBB incorporated and soon began diversifying its consulting service to include freight bill auditing and the filing of claims for lost and damaged freight. Throughout his tenure as TBB’s founder and president, Mr. Polakoff established himself as an authoritative source on the subject of transportation management. For many years, Mr. Polakoff was a transportation instructor at the University of Baltimore and in 1947, he authored A Basic Study in Transportation, a college textbook which was utilized for many years before legislative changes rendered portions of it obsolete. Mr. Polakoff led TBB through its first twenty-one years of growth until his death in 1967. The late sixties witnessed TBB’s emergence from the role of consultant to the broader field of full scale traffic management. Jay Polakoff succeeded his father as president of TBB and demonstrated entrepreneurial fortitude in his own right. Jay, also an ICC practitioner and University of Baltimore instructor, recognized that the way to fill a niche was to actually become the traffic department for those companies with no in-house expertise. Immediately, he expanded the staff to include additional personnel who were conversant with transportation operations and law. Under Jay's leadership, TBB became a national force for innovating outsourced traffic management services geared toward making small and medium sized companies more competitive in the marketplace. Throughout the remaining three decades of the 20th century, TBB expanded its portfolio to include all modes of transportation management in addition to a supply chain management consulting service. During this time, TBB invested heavily in proprietary technology to guide clients' transportation planning and reporting needs. In 2000, Jay Polakoff retired and ownership passed to the third generation of the Polakoff family, brothers Phil and Sam. The company was renamed TBB Global Logistics and proceeded to grow exponentially. In 2003, TBB acquired Amco Brokers & Forwarders of Baltimore, a respected customs broker and freight forwarder. In 2004, TBB acquired Olimpex International, a Maryland based international air freight forwarder, ocean freight forwarder and customs broker. Today, TBB Global Logistics serves thousands of worldwide shipping and receiving locations on a daily basis and is a recognized, innovative industry leader for outsourced supply chain services.
