On December 6th, with a long whistle piercing the sky, the MSC Lome V, a ship carrying about 370 containers of Chilean cherries weighing nearly 8,000 tons, docked steadily at the Phase II terminal of the Nansha Port Guangzhou, Guangdong. This marked not only the first batch of cherries imported to the Nansha Port in Guangzhou via direct sea route in the 025-2026 Southern Hemisphere cherry season, but also the first batch of cherries imported to the entire country through direct sea shipping in the new season.

Cherries from the Southern Hemisphere have a specific time window for their availability. The golden period for their concentrated harvest is from November to February of the following year. the countries exporting cherries to China, Chile plays a pivotal role, being the largest supplier of imported cherries to China. Every year, over 90% of Chile cherries are shipped overseas to enter China's vast consumer market.

To ensure that these fresh cherries can clear customs quickly, the Nansha Port of Entry, collaboration with the Nansha Customs and the Nansha Maritime Affairs, has introduced a series of facilitation measures. Through the "one-stop" inspection model, inspection processes are seamlessly connected; implementing "invisible" supervision to minimize the impact on cargo clearance, and ultimately achieving the efficient goal of "zero waiting" for cherry clearance.

Since the early hours of the morning, cold chain containers loaded with cherries have started to leave the Nansha Port terminal one after another, and after about a two-hour, they can reach the Jiangnan Fruit Market. Compared with air transport, sea-imported cherries have unique advantages, with larger transport capacity to meet the large-scale of the market; and the price is more affordable, allowing more consumers to taste the sweetness from the Southern Hemisphere. As traditional festivals such as the New Year's Day and New Year are approaching, Chilean cherries will also enter a peak sales period in China.

According to relevant forecasts, in this new season, a total of 19 "Cherry Express cargo ships will arrive successively, bringing in more than 10,000 containers of imported Chilean cherries.
