Sudden! Cargo ship "out of control" crashes into the dock, a fright at the dock of Busan Port

On December 1st, a cargo ship collided with the dock while entering Gamcheon Port in Busan, South Korea. All ten crew members on board were safe and no reports of marine pollution were made.


The incident occurred at around 11:18 AM local time, when the bow of cargo ship collided with the seawall structure located at Pier 3 in Saha District.


According to the Busan Coast Guard, a port pilot reported the collision following which the Coast Guard dispatched a coastal rescue boat to the scene. Authorities confirmed that after the collision, the bow of the cargo ship became stuck in a rainwater discharge pipe


Upon inspection, a crack approximately 30-50 centimeters long was found on the left side of the bow of the cargo ship. The concrete structure andbar of the rainwater discharge pipe were also damaged in the impact.


The Coast Guard conducted an alcohol test on the ship's captain, which came back negative.

A Coast Guard official stated that the crew's initial statement indicated that the ship moved forward instead of reversing when attempting to dock on the port side. Investigators are currently looking the exact cause of the collision.
