Taiwan’s TS Lines is adding more capacity to its expanding fleet, ordering 2-plus-2 2,900 teu containerships at China’s Mawei Shipbuilding in Fujian province, although pricing and delivery dates have not been disclosed.

The move continues a relationship two have had in place since 2021, when TS Lines kicked off a major newbuilding plan at Mawei Shipbuilding that included: eight 1,100u vessels and six 2,900 teu vessels. The series of orders were the largest container ships in the history of Mawei Shipbuilding, with all the vessels delivered by the two in January 2024.

Founded in 2001, TS Lines is the world’s 20th largest liner today, with a fleet of about 40 vessels, mainly deployed on intra-Asia routes. The new ships being ordered at Mawei Shipbuilding are in addition to an contract for a series of 5,000-5,300 teu vessels from the Huanghua Wenchong Shipbuilding Co that are scheduled for in 2028 and 2029.

TS Lines is not the only shipowner locking in new capacity at Mawei Shipbuilding. Singapore’s Pacific Shipping and Oslo-listed MPC Container Ships have also been linked to new orders at the yard, as owners continue to lock in tonnage amid stable regional demand
