Penglai Shipping's new ship joins the fleet: the "O"-class series concludes, and the green shipping strategy advances again

On 28 October, PIL held the naming ceremony for its fourth 8,200 TEU LNG-fuel container vessel – the “Kota Orkid” (Chinese name “Lan City”) – under its “O” Class series, marking another solid step in PILs journey to transform its fleet green.
The official induction of “Lan City”, signified the successful delivery of all four sister ships of PIL’s “” Class series. It is set to join the “Kota Oasis” (Fengcheng), “Kota Ocean” (Haicheng), and “K Odyssey” (De City) in the service of PIL’s South West Africa Service (SWS), further enhancing the shipping connectivity between Asia and West Africa, and for more efficient and flexible cargo transportation.
During the naming ceremony, PIL’s Executive Chairman, S.S. Teo, stated: “The “Lan” is the eighth new vessel we have taken delivery of in the past year and marks another significant milestone in PIL’s efforts to expand and renew our fleet. With the continuous of our LNG dual-fuel fleet, we have achieved significant improvements in our fleet capacity and vessel technology, and we have also increased our investment in the field of green shipping The addition of this vessel will play a crucial role in strengthening our services on the route, creating greater value for our customers.”
The “Lan City” is not a significant member of PIL’s “O” Class series but also a vivid representation of the carrier’s expansion of its green fleet. Since 2024,IL has made fruitful achievements in the field of green shipping. In addition to the four “O” Class vessels received this year, PIL has also successfully taken delivery of four 4,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel vessels. PIL currently has as many as 12 vessels on order, including five 13,000U and seven 9,000 TEU container vessels, which are expected to be delivered in the next few years. This series of measures demonstrates PIL’s ambition the field of green shipping and has also won the carrier an advantage in the competition in the global shipping market.
