Recently, a cargo ship that had been stranded in Canada's Arctic region for over a month was successfully reflo following a complex salvage operation.
The "MV Thamesborg" cargo ship ran aground on September 6th near Prince of Wales Island in the Franklin Strait subsequently becoming trapped for 33 days.
The refloating operation was completed at approximately 6 a.m. local time on October 9th. The operation specialized vessels and equipment and was closely coordinated with Canadian authorities.
During the process, it was necessary to transfer more than 5,000 tons of industrial carbon blocks the ship to two assisting vessels, the "Silver Copenhagen" and the "Nunalik," in order to reduce the cargo ship's draft.
Subsequently the maritime support vessel "MSV Botnica" used specialized equipment to carefully pump out water from the damaged ballast tank, a critical step in freeing the cargo ship.
The Canadian Coast Guard vessel "Des Groseilliers" was on-site throughout the operation to monitor safety and environmental risks. Officials confirmed that the 15 crew members one advisor on board were unharmed, and there was no pollution during the grounding and refloating processes.
After the successful refloating, the ship's was inspected before allowing it to continue its voyage. Thamesborg is currently in stable condition and has begun its journey towards a safe haven.

Its Automatic Identification System (AIS) signal shows a destination of Baie-Comeau port in Canada, with estimated arrival date of October 24th.
The exact route will depend on weather conditions, though its ice-class hull allows it to navigate in the ice-covered for part of the year.
At present, the cause of the grounding is still under investigation, and both the company and the Canadian Transportation Safety Board are fully cooperating the investigation.
The successful refloating of the Thamesborg cargo ship before the Arctic winter is seen as a significant achievement in the conduct of rescue operations under extreme polar.
