The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has launched the first phase of its Electronic Ship Registration System (REN) to modernize operations.

The system aims to integrate and unify the management platforms of the Directorate General of Merchant Marine (DGMM) and the Public Registry of Panama Ship Ownership (DGRPN), which are responsible for overseeing documentation and certification related to vessel ownership, mortgages, and maritime liens.

AMP stated that the electronic registration system was developed through a trial-and-testing approach to ensure it meets the practical needs of the maritime sector.

Ramon Franco, Director General of the Merchant Marine/Ship Registry at AMP, said that digital tools have the potential to reshape Panama’s response times and streamline tracking procedures.
