The crew activated the vessel’s foam firefighting system and contained the spread of the fire. Rescue authorities also placed lifeboats on standby in case an emergency evacuation became necessary.

By the evening of July 28, the open flames had been fully extinguished, with only a small amount of smoke remaining. Rescue teams continued cooling the vessel to prevent the fire from reigniting.
