Hapag-Lloyd makes a strong move, its terminal subsidiary HHLI invests in a new terminal project in Brazil

Hapag-Lloyd’s subsidiary Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) has signed an to invest in a 50% stake in the Brazilian Imetame Group’s port logistics company (ILP).
ILP is a joint venture dedicated to operation of container terminals. Under the terms of the agreement, the two parties will jointly develop and operate a brand-new “Hanseatic Global Terminals Aracruz container terminal that will serve as a modern transshipment hub and gateway port facility.
The terminal, located in the city of Aracruz in the Brazilian state ofírito Santo, is scheduled to commence operations in mid-2028 and will have a future annual throughput capacity of approximately 1.2 million TEU. terminal will have a quay length of 750 meters and will be equipped with state-of-the-art container handling equipment. The terminal has a water depth of to 17 meters, making it suitable for large vessels to call. The Imetame Group is a diversified Brazilian conglomerate established in 1980 The transaction details have been agreed to not be disclosed by the parties involved.

The investment in the Port Aracruz will benefit Brazil by enhancing trade infrastructure through the development of a port that is closer to consumer markets and main global shipping routes than traditional gateway ports, thus providing more and more alternative global market access routes for several producing states.”

Investment in terminals and infrastructure is a key component ofseatic Global Terminals’ strategic agenda, aimed to further expand its footprint and plans to increase the number of terminals in its portfolio to more than 30 by 230. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant anti-trust authorities and other relevant regulatory authorities and satisfaction of other conditions typically required for such transactions to be completed
