Norwegian shipowner MPC Container Ships (MPCC) has signed a contract with Tahou Sanfu Ship Engineering Co., Ltd., Jiangsu, China, for the construction of six new vessels of 3,700 TEU, totaling292.5 million.

The first vessel is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2028. According to MPCC, the new ships been chartered by an undisclosed "top five" container shipping company for a period of 10 years, with an option for extension. The initial charter period is expected to $479 million in revenue and around $288 million in EBITDA. The company's current orderbook reserve has exceeded $2 billion.

" vessels feature the latest design, optimized for speed and fuel consumption for regional and feeder trades, while offering the flexibility to switch between different routes as market conditions evolve. The vessels are set up for alternative fuels and advanced emission reduction technologies and designed to adapt to increasingly stringent environmental regulations throughout their lifespan," said MPCC.

The financing of the new vessels be through a mix of debt and equity.

In 2022, MPCC signed a contract with Taizhou Sanfu for the construction of two 1300 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships. The two vessels, named "NCL Vestland" and "NCL Nordland," were successfully delivered February and April 2025, respectively. The project was hailed as a demonstration project for the green shipping corridor in Northern Europe and marked the official entry into service of the's first feeder container ships designed to run entirely on methanol as the main fuel. Constantin Baack said that it was a significant step in the company's decbonization strategy and that Taizhou Sanfu had excellently completed this high-end green project. In 2025, MPCC again signed a contract with Tahou Sanfu for the construction of four new-generation 4,500 TEU container ships, totaling $228 million. The four vessels are scheduled to delivered from the second half of 2027, and each ship has already secured a three-year charter with a global top liner.

"We again ordered new vessels and entered into long-term charter agreements with toptier companies, resulting in a total of 17 of the most advanced new vessels under construction, which are expected to be delivered from 2026. These steps strengthen strategic partnerships, enhance earnings visibility, and underpin our commitment to creating long-term value."

In addition, the Norwegian company also formed a 50:5 joint venture with Uthalden to co-own two of the 4,500 TEU vessels currently wholly-owned by MPCC. The two vessels have beenered out to a "top five liner."

"I am also pleased that we made further progress on other portfolio and financing initiatives, including our cooperation with Uthald, a trusted partner with whom we have had successful cooperation before," added Constantin Baack.

In addition, MPCC has agreed to sell the "Clementina vessel for $24 million as the ship is scheduled to undergo a 20-year class renewal survey in 2026. The vessel will be delivered to anclosed buyer in the second quarter of 2026 after the current charter contract expires.
