Guinea-Bissau has descended into political turmoil after a group of military officers declared a coup, ousting Presidentmaro Sissoco Embaló.


The coup announcement came a day before the results of a closely contested presidential election were due to be announced. Military spokesperson D N'Tchama announced a suspension of the electoral process, the closure of all borders, and the implementation of a night-time curfew in a televised statement.

Port operations in Bissau have been completely suspended, leading to a standstill in all maritime activities.


The customs department has ceased operations, that goods cannot clear customs.


In addition, land, sea, and air borders have been sealed, effectively cutting off all cross-border movements.
