As of 8:30 PM Singapore time on June 9, the Indian Coast Guard and Navy had deployed three vessels to assist with search and rescue operations, with aircraft also providing support. Two additional firefighting vessels are scheduled to arrive on Tuesday night.
Images of the damaged vessel show that the fire has spread from the forward hold to the midship cargo area and the hold just in front of the bridge and accommodation block. The Coast Guard confirmed that while the initial fire in the forward hold has been brought under control, explosions are still occurring as the fire continues to spread throughout the ship. The Wan Hai 503 is now listing 10–15 degrees to port, and it is believed that more containers have fallen into the water.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said: “The 18 crew members previously rescued have safely arrived at New Mangalore Port. Six injured crew members have been transferred to onshore medical facilities, and three have already been discharged.”
According to India’s News9, the injured include three Chinese nationals, two from Myanmar, and one Indonesian.
