Maritime incident: 16 (or 18) containers fell from the cargo ship Baltic Klipper, part of Serade Group, into the sea near Bembridge, Isle of Wight, England.


The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has issued a warning to local vessels to be of obstructions in the shipping lanes.


The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. local time on December 6th.


A spokesperson for Seat Group stated: The vessel began to list on its journey to Portsmouth on Saturday (December 6th), resulting in subsequent container loss.


It has been reported among the fallen containers, 8 were carrying bananas, 2 contained plantains, 1 had avocados, and 5 were empty.


All cargo within the containers been classified as non-hazardous, and no injuries to crew members have been reported as a result of this incident.


The loss of the containers has reportedly causedions to shipping in the Solent area, leading to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency issuing a warning about the containers.


The P&O cruise ship Iona, 5,200 passengers, was delayed by 24 hours as a result.


Salvage operations are underway, and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency conducting an air search in the vicinity of where the containers were lost. A floating container has been reported in the Selsey area, which has been cordoned off.
