Since launching an unprecedented buying spree of second-hand container ships in August 2020, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) amassed a massive fleet of 461 used vessels, an eye-popping figure that has left the industry reeling. The figure, disclosed by shipping analyst Alphal, is described as "staggering".

According to Alphaliner data, the company currently has 123 vessels order, with a total capacity exceeding 2.1 million TEU, setting an industry record.
