On October 18th, a fire broke out on the cargo ship "Sloman Dispatcher" while it was docked at the Port Escombreras in Cartagena, Spain.
The fire, which reportedly is now under control, did not result in any casualties or environmental pollution.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time on October 18th, when a waterproof tarpaulin covering cargo on the ship' engine caught fire, and the blaze simultaneously erupted in two adjacent but separate areas within the cargo hold.
The Municipal Firefighters of Cartagena responded promptly to the, along with port police and the Civil Guard. Crew members had already laid two hoses to attempt to extinguish the flames.
With the firefighting efforts underway, fire was declared extinguished at 3 p.m.
At this time, the fire is suspected to have originated from an oxygen-acetylene cutting operation
The "Sloman Dispatcher" is a general cargo ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, built in 2012. The vessel 138 meters long, 22 meters wide, and has a gross tonnage of 9611.
