Recently, a large amount of drugs were seized from the containers of a cargo ship bound for the Port of Durban in South Africa.



South African authorities reported that they had seized a massive haul of cocaine in an international operation dubbed "Irene," marking a significant victory in cross-border cooperation to combat international drug trafficking.




The South African Revenue Service (SARS) collaborated with Brazilian counterparts in this intelligence-led operation, which targeted suspicious containers destined for D. An unidentified cargo vessel was intercepted at an outer anchorage about four nautical miles east of Durban by a customs maritime patrol vessel, which escorted the ship to berth in the port.




Once the vessel was docked, customs enforcement officers boarded and conducted a search, locating multiple containers that had been flagged as presenting smuggling risk during the intelligence phase.




The officers searched these containers and discovered a total of 25 blocks of suspected cocaine hidden within the container's referation units. On-site testing confirmed the presence of cocaine, which was then handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation and prosecution.




Police the value of the seized cocaine to be approximately $3.2 million. They also reported that the cocaine was of extremely high quality, suitable for dilution and expansion of production for distribution.
