According to local Malaysian media reports, a tanker fire occurred in the eastern waters of Johor on August 7, resulting in the death of a 42-year-old Indonesian crew member and leaving four others injured.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency officials revealed that the incident took place around 6:00 PM local time on the 7th. Fishermen in the area noticed the fire on the tanker, named "MT 108," located 36 nautical miles east of Tanjung Sedili Kecil.

At 9:30 PM that evening, the Malaysian Johor Bahru Maritime Rescue Sub-Center (MRSC) received the incident report.

Upon receiving the report, search and rescue (SAR) operations were launched immediately. The "KM Satria" patrol vessel was the first to reach the scene, with assistance from the "Perkasa 30" patrol vessel from the Tanjung Sedili maritime zone and the "Penggalang 43" patrol vessel from the Port of Tanjung Pengerang. According to officials, preliminary investigations and information shared with the police indicated that five crew members were rescued by nearby vessels and brought to shore. The injured crew members, including the burned crew member, were also rescued by passing ships.

The deceased was identified as a 42-year-old Indonesian crew member, whose body has been sent to the hospital for an autopsy. The other four injured crew members, including one Malaysian and three Indonesian crew members aged between 31 and 49, have been taken to a hospital in Pandan, Johor Bahru for treatment.

As of now, the MRSC is still verifying the total number of crew members on board the tanker, and the search and rescue operation is covering an area of 8 square miles.
