Hong Kong Customs Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth HKD 34 Million on River Vessel to Macau

According to a July 9 announcement by Hong Kong Customs, authorities have maintained a high-pressure enforcement stance in recent operations, cracking down on various smuggling activities.


On June 27, Hong Kong Customs successfully uncovered a suspected river vessel smuggling case, seizing a large quantity of suspected contraband with an estimated market value of approximately HKD 34 million.


Based on intelligence analysis and risk assessment, customs officers conducted a spot check on a river vessel departing Hong Kong for Macau. Upon thorough inspection, they discovered a substantial amount of suspected smuggled goods onboard.


The seized items included approximately 570,000 suspected pharmaceutical products, around 1,500 kilograms of dried shark fins, about 47 kilograms of shisha tobacco, 42 kilograms of bird’s nest, 38 kilograms of cigars, and 1,380 mobile phones.


The case is still under investigation, and arrests may follow.
