On Friday night, at a dock in the Apapa Port of Lagos, a cargo ship named "Chang Min" (IMO 9622801) suddenly caught fire.

It is reported that the vessel arrived at the Port of Lagos carrying goods, including construction equipment, CNG trucks, wood products and tires. A fire broke out in the second area of the cargo hold.

AIS shows that Chang Min previously called at multiple Chinese ports.

The captain successfully guided the ship to the port of Lagos and the rescue operation began immediately. It is understood that the vessel was assisted in docking at ENL Joint Terminal No. 8 in Apapa.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said in a statement released on Saturday that the fire was extinguished through the joint efforts of the LASEMA Response team - Onibanu, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) fire unit. LASEMA stated as follows: "Upon receiving the alert, the Lagos State Emergency Management Office (LASEMA) initiated the state's emergency response plan from the Cobra base in Onipanu."

According to LASEMA's statement, the initial investigation conducted by emergency rescue workers at the scene indicates that the fire occurred at the unloading point. The specific cause is still under investigation.

There were no casualties and the identities of all the crew members on board have been confirmed.

The cause of the incident has not been determined yet. This was the case at the time of submission of this report.
